Mo Salah received the 2nd highest vote in Egypt's last Presidential Election (he didn't even announce he was in the running for it ). Surely a contender for future President then whether he asks for it or not lol. He's carefully choreographing his actions as the President in waiting then, I guess   .

I remember seeing a vid quite some time ago where Egyptians talked about the attention that Salah gets. They said that whenever Salah is playing football, whether it be for club or country, all Egyptians from different religions, backgrounds etc come together to watch him play, whether it be around the TV or in the stadium, and it makes them feel more united as Egyptians, forget any divisions and so on.

Well, we're seeing it everywhere these days aren't we? The politicization of everything. Seems like we can't escape it.

With football(soccer) it's also taken on another dimension. Soccer has grown so remarkably throughout the world during the past 10-20 years (much of it due to owners trying to make extortionate profits imo). You now have the top players in soccer earning far more than any of the top US sports stars, which never was the case with previous generations' sports stars. In this now globalized sport, the very best soccer players are now idolized by millions of people for what they can do on a football pitch and it follows that these people are now sort of seen like Ambassadors for their respective countries.
