I read some time ago (so no linkie) that the US budget cuts under Obama had huge impacts upon the military's equipment, and many of the planes were probably very risky.

I can't imagine that this has improved with Trump, but I could be wrong.  The number of crashes we've seen in the last 9 months make me think there has been no change.

On Fox there were reportages explaining that staff is forced to canibalize parts from comissioned jets or even from museums. With all this horendous paments for military deploxment abroad there is no chance it gonna change, Trump or not.

Here's my amateur opinion: Like the US infrastructure network, the US Armed Forces are flush with money but much of it is lost to overpriced contracts. Plus, vast sums have been spent on ammunition for active bombing campaigns. And then there's R&D. In short, maintaining existing equipment is shoved to the side - maintenance engineers aren't jazzy lobbyists.

This coincides with something N6 said on GLP a few months back regarding the sorry state of maintenance funding. Trump can change it, but he won't.

Which brings me to a related point. I've been thinking about the successes of Trump's presidency - chiefly, targeted deregulation. Are these coming from Trump? Is he really setting out the content of these executive orders? I highly doubt it. He's got a deregulation mindset, which is important, but he's not the nuts and bolts guy. Why does this matter? Because Trump's supporters believe that not only does Trump have the power to change things, but that he is. He is not. He is a saleman, like every president, and he's merely signing off what the staffers, lobbyists, and men behind the scene are handing him.

He has changed some things by his own volition, certainly. From what I see, he's behind the North Korea and Iran moves, he's behind the Jerusalem Embassy, he's behind the travel bans. Those are the big ones that come to mind. But look at how many things are within his power that he's said he'd do, could do easily, but hasn't done. For instance, ending policies of regime change; building the wall; returning the US Armed Forces to the homeland; shutting down the Department of Education; etc. He could do all of this with the swipe of a pen, but doesn't. Nor does he need much intellect to even write the executive order. This tells me that Trump isn't interested in change. He's interested in signing off on things people give him. He's a "big picture" guy - like Bush Jr, he rants and shouts and tells his subordinates what he wants, and they hand him anything, which he then signs. The danger of this is apparent in both the tax cut bill and the omnibus bill (which finally knocked me off the Trump Train).

So, in short, there does seem to be a readily fixable reason for the sorry state of the Armed Forces - but Trump won't do what's necessary to fix it. Yet another area where MAGA has proven itself to be an illusion.

Really, that red section sums it up.  Your entire post did, but in a nutshell, that's the crux of the matter.    

Yup. It's clear now that his entire campaign - the entire MAGA phenomenon - was nothing but a sales pitch. His campaign was run by the New Right - hence the quasi-libertarian message - whereas his presidency has been run by neo-cons.

Wow. That's interesting. I only did a rudimentary search, but can only find comparison statistics for each country, globally, thru 2016. It will be interesting to see what is compiled globally for 2017 compared with previous years. I'd be surprised if it's not up globally. So many countries in turmoil with their economies, immigration issues, and social media having a huge influence on folks (and so many hateful people out there). I don't have time now, but I'll see if I can dig some info up later.

Mo Salah received the 2nd highest vote in Egypt's last Presidential Election (he didn't even announce he was in the running for it ). Surely a contender for future President then whether he asks for it or not lol. He's carefully choreographing his actions as the President in waiting then, I guess .

I remember seeing a vid quite some time ago where Egyptians talked about the attention that Salah gets. They said that whenever Salah is playing football, whether it be for club or country, all Egyptians from different religions, backgrounds etc come together to watch him play, whether it be around the TV or in the stadium, and it makes them feel more united as Egyptians, forget any divisions and so on.
