(October 19, 2021) Public health or private wealth? How digital vaccine passports pave way for unprecedented surveillance capitalism
Indeed, behind the push for digital vaccine passports
is a coterie of supra-national neoliberal institutions
guided by oligarchic tech industry donors.

Mega-corporations, international finance institutions,
and billionaire-backed private foundations
have played a vital role in lobbying
for and implementing digital immunity passports.

In 2015, The Gates Foundation provided seed money to a Yale School
of Public Health project that would become known as Khushi Baby.
Now a non-profit, Khushi Baby makes microchip-equipped necklaces for a child
to wear at all times to track their vaccination status and establish continuous monitoring
from their first immunizations through adulthood. The non-profit says it is now using data
from over 35,000 villages in India to create algorithms that “predict health outcomes for mothers and children.”

The Aadhaar system is named for a 12 digit number that serves as a proof of identity and address, among other markers, anywhere in India.
To date, a whopping 1.3 billion Indians have been enrolled in the system, making it the largest biometric ID database ever constructed.
It contains iris scans and fingerprints from both hands of each user. The technology for this system was provided by none other than the French security firm IDEMIA.

In the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, a wave of deaths took place in 2017
when impoverished citizens were cut off from government-subsidized food rations by the Aadhaar system.
In several cases, aging widows were denied rice for several months because the system rejected their fingerprint scans.

Around the same time, three brothers died of starvation after they failed to properly register with Aadhaar
and were subsequently denied rations for six months. The same cruel fate was visited on the Kumari family,
which was unable to obtain an electronic Aadhaar ID, lost its ration card, and saw its 11-year-old daughter, Santoshi, die of hunger.

In 2016, the Gates Foundation ponied up funding for a World Bank project called the Identity for Development (ID4D) Initiative
for the declared purpose of bringing the “Aadhaar approach to other countries.”
To date, the World Bank has invested $1.2 billion into the ID4D initiative,
with the official aim of creating “identification systems using 21st Century solutions.”

Among the four financial partners that established the initiative were two familiar Big Tech-backed operations:
The Gates Foundation and The Omidyar Network, along with Australian Aid and UK Aid.

(October 22, 2021) New patent proposes digital surveillance to vaccinate people based on social credit style scores
Patent and trademark attorneys Dr. Gal Ehrlich and Maier Fenster of Ehrlich & Fenster
recently had a US patent approved for a technology that aims to surveil people via their digital activity,

give them a score that defines “the potential level of super-spreading activity of each individual,”
and then vaccinate people based on this score.

The patent proposes collecting a wide range of personal information
from sources such as mobile devices, apps, social media web browsing records,
payment records, medical records, employment records, the government, and surveillance cameras.

(November 17, 2021) Duma introduces QR codes for entry - Russian State Duma speaker

MOSCOW. Nov 17 (Interfax) - The State Duma is introducing mandatory QR codes,
including for government officials, for entry into the plenary session hall and committee meetings, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said.
If a government official who makes a report on a bill on behalf of the government does not have a QR code,
he will not be allowed to enter the session hall, and the government will be asked to send a different representative to the chamber, he said.

On November 12, the Russian government submitted to the State Duma two bills introducing a system of QR codes in Russia.
The first bill amends the law on sanitary-epidemiological wellbeing. It introduces mandatory QR codes
certifying vaccination, contraindications to vaccination, or recovery from the disease in order to visit restaurants,
stores other than grocery stores, mass events, and cultural establishments.

The second bill amends the Air Code and the Railway Transport Charter. It introduces mandatory QR codes to buy tickets
and board planes and trains. The government has suggested that results of PCR tests be accepted along with QR codes during the initial stage.

(September 18, 2018) Digital Asset’s Blythe Masters joins ID2020 board
Today the ID2020 alliance announced the addition of four new Board members, including Blythe Masters, the high profile CEO of Digital Asset.
The coalition aims to create a digital identity, especially for people who lack passports, birth certificates, and the like.
In addition to Masters, the new directors are Dr. Seth Berkley, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance;
Kim Cameron, Architect of Identity at Microsoft; and David Treat, Managing Director and Global Head of Accenture’s Blockchain Practice.
The alliance consists of NGOs, private companies, and UN agencies. Partners include Accenture, Gavi, Hyperledger, Microsoft, and UN-ICC.

David Treat brings a breadth of expertise to the board. He’s a board member of Linux’s Hyperledger,
the open-source effort to advance cross-industry blockchain technology. Blythe Masters is Chair of the Governing Board.
The Accenture executive is also Vice Chairman of the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance.

There are two aspects to the challenge. At a technical level, there’s a need for interoperability
between a diverse range of organizations across the globe. There’s also a need to coordinate in non-technical areas.
