True but Iran got most of that influence back during the Safavid empire that's why neighbouring areas like Iraq, Azerbaijan and western Afghanistan are mostly Shia. Iran made its self different from almost all Arabs by becoming shia instead of Sunni and some Arabs from Iraq, Lebanon, Bahrain and Syria also became Shia, shia is now seen as Persian led and Sunni Arab led.

The 12er Shia connected with the Persians under the Safavids, this is true. This was the time, when the Ottomans and the Safavids shared all Muslim countries. Both were heavily influenced by the Dervish movement.
The 7er Shia and the heterodox Shia in Lebanon, Syria and Pakistan (Gilgit, close to Ladakh) are different.
