As Bloomberg reported, Amazon responded to a KIRO 7 news report about a couple who received a call from a friend saying "unplug your Alexa devices right now. You’re being hacked" after the company's device had shared a private conversation without explicit permission.

Indeed. Corporate media talks almost constantly about "Russian media war", Kremlin trolls", "Russian bots". US/NATO wide spread mass electronic surveillance and programs to influence public opinion, or spread pure propaganda, go under their radar almost completely.
I had quite large thread regarding the topic on the other site. Luckily I have links stored so I will shere them here. It gonna be mix of the older articles, as those above, and actual events.

Facebook isn’t the only organization conducting research into how attitudes are affected by social media. The Department of Defense has invested millions of dollars over the past few years investigating social media, social networks, and how information spreads across them. While Facebook and Cornell University researchers manipulated what individuals saw in their social media streams, military-funded research—including projects funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA) Social Media in Strategic Communications (SMISC) program—has looked primarily into how messages from influential members of social networks propagate.

The organization has shared its methods with the NSA, and these capabilities have been used in Afghanistan and elsewhere to “shape” information available to members of targeted organizations online and via mobile phones.

Facebook has filed a patent for a system that hides audio clips in TV commercials. These sounds would be so high-pitched that they are inaudible to human beings. They would then trigger your phone to record all the background noises in your home. The patent application is called “broadcast content view analysis based on ambient audio recording.”

Facebook says it has removed 32 accounts and pages believed to have been set up to influence the mid-term US elections in November.
It said it was in the "very early" stages of the investigation and did not yet know who was behind the pages.

Just curious - what is in post-truth era considered as "influence of elections"? Is it, for example, information or reminder of Waters' corruption?

Just curious - what is in post-truth era considered as "influence of elections"? Is it, for example, information or reminder of Waters' corruption?
This time around it seems it's for making memes which make jokes about Trump.
Note how they are saying now they banned the accounts not because they are from outside of the US or even because it's "fake news", but the primary reason is simply for "influencing elections" alone. So people aren't allowed to influence their own elections and must accept the path that has already been chosen for them?
Besides, these accounts they banned, from the screenshots I see nothing much different from what you would perhaps see in some adverts that are directed at Americans during elections from the PACs.
